This week, IFPTE Local 777 participated in the Local Wage Survey Hearing for the Chicago, Illinois area. This is an every-two-year process where local establishments are surveyed to see how much certain jobs are paid in certain industries – all adding up to a prevailing wage. This is how blue-collar wages are set in the federal government.
As the representative of over 50 workers paid according to the Chicago wage survey, we took the opportunity to advocate for the jobs and industries most applicable to our workers; the expected result is that the overall wage schedule would increase if these jobs and the “Heavy Construction and Civil Engineering” industry is included.
